Abstract

ultural topics and communicative situations are among the most important aspects that language learners focus on, especially when they need to communicate with native speakers of the target language. Although numerous Arab and international studies have addressed these domains and situations, there remains a need for further Arabic research on how to effectively incorporate such topics and situations into textbooks for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in ways that meet learners’ needs, enhance their ability to use Arabic, and enable them to interact with native speakers in various real-life contexts.

This study aims to highlight the most important cultural topics and communicative situations across different educational levels, drawing on major Arabic studies that classify these topics and situations according to proficiency levels. It also addresses the vocabulary associated with these topics and situations, along with the principles governing its selection. In addition, the study proposes models for presenting cultural topics and communicative situations at the intermediate level.

The research is divided into two main sections: a theoretical section and an applied one. The theoretical section discusses the general definition of domains and communicative situations and their classification across educational levels. It also examines types of vocabulary and the criteria for their selection in textbooks for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, given that vocabulary constitutes the core of topics and communicative situations. Furthermore, it explores the cultural dimension of these topics and situations, demonstrating how each language reflects its speakers’ culture.
