Abstract

This article addresses the problematic comparison between modern Western achievements and the efforts of ancient Arabic scholars in the field of linguistic studies. It attempts to balance these historical contributions with the linguistic frameworks established by Ferdinand de Saussure and Noam Chomsky.

What, then, are the points of intersection between these creative dimensions? And is it possible to produce an Arabic linguistic theory that keeps pace with modern theories?
