Abstract

The Algerian novel has undergone several transformations and distinct stages, such as the colonial period, the post-independence era, and the Black Decade. During these phases, the Algerian novelist engaged in diverse and modernist literary experiments. The novelist was not isolated from the changes occurring in the surrounding world, sharing influences with other arts such as music, dance, painting, and the visual arts, among many others.

Within this context, the writer has relied on experimentation in order to keep pace with certain rapidly evolving modernist phenomena that respond to the demands of Algeria’s social, political, and cultural reality. Among these phenomena are intertextuality and the blending of literary genres and forms, which characterize the new novel in Algerian literature.
