Abstract

Self-defeating beliefs and their relationship to self-defeating behaviors among sample of secondary school students.
This research aims to identify the possible relationship between the Self-defeating beliefs and the self-defeating behaviors of a sample of secondary school students in the Damascus Governorate official schools (the number of members of this sample was 320 male and female students). To achieve the aim of the study, the scale of self-defeating beliefs and the Scale of self-defeating behaviors were used, and a set of results were reached, the most prominent of which are the following: The level of self-defeating behaviors and self-defeating beliefs among the members of the research sample was high, and it was found that there is appositive correlation between each of the self-defeating behaviors and self-defeating beliefs, as It was found that there were no statistically significant differences between the members of the basic study sample on the scale of self-defeating behaviors according to the gender variable, while it was significant differences according to the level of academic achievement in favor of the study sample members with a level of Low academic achievement, as it was found that there were statistically significant differences between the study sample members on the scale of self-defeating beliefs according to the variables of sex and the level of educational achievement. As for the effect of each of the self-defeating beliefs and the categorical variables on the level of self-defeating behaviors, it was found that the self-defeating beliefs are the most influential variables on the level of self-defeating behaviors among the study sample members.
