Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
The Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (JOSSH) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal seeks to ensure transparency, credibility, and scientific rigor at all stages of the publication process.
The journal’s policies and procedures are guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and are aligned with the COPE Core Practices in handling ethical issues related to scholarly publishing.
Authors’ Responsibilities
- Authors must ensure that their submitted manuscripts are original, have not been previously published, and are not under consideration by another journal at the same time.
- All sources used in the manuscript must be appropriately cited and acknowledged.
- Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.
- Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant scientific contribution to the work.
- Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to their research.
Data Availability and Research Data
Authors may be requested to provide raw data related to their research for editorial review. Authors should ensure that data supporting the findings of their study are retained and made available where appropriate, in accordance with ethical and legal considerations.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
Authors must disclose any use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of their manuscripts. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their work.
Research Involving Human Participants
Research involving human participants must include a clear statement confirming that appropriate ethical approval was obtained from a recognized ethics committee or institutional review board, where required. Authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from participants.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
JOSSH adopts a double-blind peer review process.
- Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
- Provide objective, constructive, and timely reviews.
- Identify relevant published work that has not been cited.
- Inform the editors of any substantial similarity or overlap with other works.
- Decline the review if a conflict of interest exists.
Editors’ Responsibilities
Editors make publication decisions based solely on the academic merit of the manuscript, regardless of authors’ gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.
The editorial board ensures the integrity, fairness, and confidentiality of the peer review process.
Handling of Misconduct
- Initial assessment of the allegation by the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor.
- Communication with the corresponding author to request clarification.
- Review of supporting evidence.
- If necessary, communication with the authors’ affiliated institution(s).
- Final decision based on the findings.
In cases of serious errors or unethical conduct, the journal may publish corrections or issue retractions when necessary.
Plagiarism Policy
All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism detection using appropriate similarity-checking tools.
Corrections and Retractions
Corrections, clarifications, or retractions will be published when required, in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines.
Complaints and Appeals
The journal handles all complaints related to publication ethics with fairness, transparency, and confidentiality, following COPE procedures and recommendations.
