Social Skills Level of Third-Year Bachelor’s Students in Clinical Psychology at the University of M’sila"

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of social skills among third-year undergraduate students majoring in Clinical Psychology at the University of M'sila, and to reveal potential differences in these skills based on certain demographic variables: gender, age, and place of residence. The importance of this study stems from the fact that social skills constitute one of the fundamental pillars of effective human interaction, especially for university students preparing to enter professional and social life.

To achieve the study's objectives, the descriptive approach was adopted as the most suitable method for such topics, which aim to observe reality as it is and analyze it in a scientific and objective manner. The study sample consisted of (68) male and female third-year undergraduate students in Clinical Psychology during the 2024-2025 academic year. The Social Skills Test was used as the primary data collection tool, after confirming its psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability.

To reveal potential differences in the mean level of social skills among the participants, a t-test was administered. The study concluded with the following results.

- The level of social skills among third-year clinical psychology students at the University of M'sila is average.

- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of social skills among a sample of third-year clinical psychology students at the University of M'sila based on gender.

-There are statistically significant differences in the level of social skills among a sample of third-year clinical psychology students at the University of M'sila based on age, favoring those over 35.

-There are statistically significant differences in the level of social skills based on residence, favoring non-residents.
