Abstract

Metaphor has occupied a prominent place in rhetorical and literary studies both anciently and modernly, with countless discussions regarding its nature, types, and purpose; despite the foundational achievements of Aristotelian thought, there is an urgent need to transcend its fragmentation-based theory by proposing new frameworks—such as the Interaction Theory of Metaphor—which understands metaphor through modes of thinking and world perception, a trend vividly embodied by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson in their book "Metaphors We Live By"; accordingly, this research highlights the recent developments and applications in metaphor studies through the aforementioned work to keep pace with contemporary research and leverage its insights.
