Abstract

Some believe and almost assert that semiology as a science was in the West at the hands of the great theorists de Saussure, Peirce and others, and even the precursors of this science that they preached were among the ancient Western philosophies, but the browser of the books of the ancient Islamic and Arab thought in the past finds many examples of these foreshadowing - though It has not been formulated epistemically in a knowledge system as a science in itself - but it is ingratitude to deny that semiology has roots in our Arab thought, which is what this research paper came to answer.
