The Confrontation Between the National Liberation Front (FLN) and Messali Hadj's Algerian National Movement (MNA) (1954–1962)

In this article, we examined the position of the Messalist movement toward the Revolution. Through this study, we attempted to uncover the dialogue between this movement and the National Liberation Front (FLN) aimed at resolving core issues of contention. We also analyzed the efforts of the Messalists to circumvent the FLN’s revolutionary initiative through their diplomatic activities abroad and their unilateral armed actions at home.
Our efforts focused on highlighting the fierce armed confrontation that erupted between the National Liberation Army (ALN) and the Messalist armed groups in the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Historical Provinces (Wilayas). We explained the causes of these clashes, examined their most significant turning points, and analyzed their outcomes and repercussions on the Algerian Revolution.
