Abstract

Sharon Zukin is a contemporary Marxist scholar and urban sociologist; her works focuses on urban studies and consumer culture. Zukin’s work was focused on the gentrification brought, by changing in the authentic urban space and demanded the right of the city and “Authenticity”. The city is authentic in its diversity and ethnic and class differences, with its poor and rich, and disagree with the modernist ideas brought by the offices; the city's culture has lost its authenticity and made the life difficult on the lower working classes. In addition, the high rent and improving the face of local streets in changing the social, ethnic and class structure in the old neighborhoods and streets, most of the old stores replaced by shopping in open supermarkets and expensive stores; with new owners .Although, it is gentrified but it serves only upper classes. The reason for this modern material orientation at the expense of the culture brought by modernity to the cities. The Authenticity is the spirit and the soul of the city as she think is, and the modernization of this consumption spaces (stores, boutiques, restaurant…); consuming the aesthetic luxury and modern culture change its old and authentic faces, it is what caused the urban landscape change; this caused also the interruption of social relations, and makes the city naked. The cities in the third world also affected by the globalization and the modernization this is make us asking about the results on its traditional and authentic urban culture in consumption spaces.
