The Reality of Cognitive Integration between Linguistics and Humanities - A Phenomenological Study in Speech Pathology and Psychology -

The concept of interdisciplinary studies across various scientific disciplines has recently gained significant recognition among scholars and researchers, regardless of their scientific orientations. This burgeoning interest stems from the impactful outcomes derived from the interdisciplinary interactions among distinct fields of study. It is evident that these results would not be as substantial if focus and efforts were confined to individual disciplines alone; this is because interdisciplinary connections reveal convergence points among these sciences, thereby exemplifying the essence of cognitive integration that occurs between them. Notably, a profound connection exists between speech pathology and psychology.
Speech pathology, an integral branch of linguistics, is closely linked to psychology. This linkage is examined through several foundational aspects that enhance their interconnectedness. Key among these is the collaboration between linguists and psychologists in studying speech disorders, where psychological factors are often identified as contributory causes. Investigating these factors and their effects on the language capabilities of individuals during communication within their environments is paramount. Additionally, psychological treatment methods are a primary approach in treating individuals with speech disorders; employing principles and tests from various psychological theories, such as cognitive theory and neuropsychology, aims to rehabilitate them for effective and accurate communication. Thus, this research paper focuses on exploring the collaborative junctures between speech pathology and psychology and deriving insights from these intersections.
