Abstract

This study tests a model associating modes of organizational involvement with employees' attitudes towards workplace safety. It was conducted on a sample of (140) employees belonging to the Algerian society of bridges and works of arts "SAPTA", who, after an increase of workplace accidents in this society, have benefited from a training action on safety at work. The results show that only employees who show a high level of affective and normative involvement profile, according to whether the compliance with the security norm is positively perceived by the respondents, have favorable attitudes towards the security policy at work in the long run. On the other hand, the calculated mode of involvement is negatively associated with this type of attitude despite training received for this purpose. Having verified a certain number of theoretical dimensions regarding the concepts of affective, normative and calculated" organizational involvement and attitudes towards safety at work, and demonstrating the importance of the modes of emotional and normative involvement in the development of positive attitudes towards safety at work and how these attitudes are maintained in the long run contrary to the mode of calculated involvement and training action on safety at work, this research provides an interesting scientific and managerial contribution for the implementation of a workplace safety approach. This leads us to question the model of attitudes change specific to the applications
organizational implication theories for the conduct of this kind of action.
