The Algerian National Library in the light of the digital age: studying the reality with proposing a plan of action for its development

Abstract

This work aims at studying the reality of the Algerian National Library in the light of the digital age, with a proposal of plan of action to develop it. And to achieve this we use an analytical quartet approach (SWOT- Threats- Opportunities- Weaknesses- Strengths) that allowed us to know the internal environment of the library by extracting the strengths and weaknesses, and what includes as opportunities and challenges. We use research tools (questionnaire - interview - observation) to collect data of the field study.
The results of study came to the Algerian National Library is still wandering the administrative problems and mechanism problems, and it is so far from the modern technological developments such as the collection and preservation of digital heritage and its presence on the internet through webcasts and social media. From the obtained results, we have to propose a comprehensive action plan to develop the Algerian National Library with respect of standard to prepare projects in the field of information technology IEEE std 1058.
