Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the extent to which the competency-based approach contributes to the understanding of spoken discourse (oral expression) in the Arabic language at the middle school level, through the texts adopted in the annual curriculum. The study relies on the descriptive method, as it is the most appropriate for this research. One of the main findings is that the field of spoken discourse comprehension (oral expression) is a key linguistic component in the educational process, as it enriches the learner’s language and helps them communicate with others. However, despite the contributions of the competency-based approach to the understanding of oral expression, it still faces difficulties in the educational field among Arabic language teachers.
