Cognitive Modeling of Meaning

Abstract

 

This study seeks to develop a conceptual framework for cognitive modeling of meaning, based on the premise that linguistic meaning is not a fixed unit independent of the language user, but rather a dynamic structure shaped through the interaction of a set of interconnected cognitive and semantic processes. Within this framework, the study proposes viewing cognitive modeling of meaning as a procedural representation of how a linguistic unit moves from being merely a formal stimulus to becoming a network of concepts and relations through which meaning is constructed in a given context. This construction is not limited to simple semantic relations; rather, it extends to complex semantic relations arising from the interaction of concepts, contexts, prior knowledge, implications, inferential processes, and relationships between cognitive domains.
