Abstract

The aim of this study was to reveal the attitude of parents towards their deaf child. And the detection of a difference between fathers and mothers in their  attitudes towards their deaf child, difference between rural and urban parents in their attitudes towards their deaf child, and the extent of the educational level impact on parental attitudes towards their deaf child, and the detection of differences in parental attitudes towards their deaf child according to their financial condition of the family, in addition the existence of differences in parental attitudes towards their deaf child according to the severity of the disability. Data were collected from a sample formed from of 35 persons, 18 of whom 18 fathers and 17 mothers, using a scale of attitude developed by the researchers. It consists of three dimensions and has acceptable psychometric properties. The findings showed that parents have negative attitudes towards their children with hearing disabilities. In addition, there are no significant differences between parents in their attitudes toward their children with hearing disabilities. There are no significant differences between rural and urban in the direction of their children with hearing disabilities. There are no significant differences in parental attitudes towards their children with hearing disabilities according to the educational level. There are no significant differences in parental attitudes towards their children with hearing disabilities according to the material condition of the family. There are no significant differences in parental attitudes towards their children with hearing disabilities according to the severity of disability (medium, severe, very severe).
