Irrational Thoughts and Their Relationship with Exam Anxiety among Third-Year Secondary School Students

Abstract

This research aims at identifying the range of the spread of the irrational ideas among the students of 3rd year secondary school, and the differences among them. It also aims at knowing the nature of the relation between irrational ideas and both of test anxiety to the student of 3rd year secondary school. The problem of the study is formed in the following questions:

First: what is the range of the ascending of the irrational ideas among the students of 3rd year secondary school?

Second: what is the relation between irrational ideas and the test anxiety among the students of 3rd year secondary school?

In term of those questions and the hypotheses of the research, the descriptive method was used to know the range of the spread of the irrational ideas and the test anxiety. the students of 3rd year secondary school. The final sample consisted (120) students. (58) students from science department and (62) students from the literary department. In this research three scales have been used. They are: the scale of irrational and rational ideas, the scale of test anxiety, the scale of achievement motivation.

By calculating the simple average and Persons correlation coefficient, the research has come to the following outcomes:

  • The irrational ideas are high among the students of 3rd year secondary school.
  • There is a positive correlation between irrational ideas and test anxiety among the students of 3rd year secondary school.

In the light of the research findings, the researcher recommends the following:

  • Infuse scientific thinking skills and the rational beliefs and ideas to the students through the current studying programs and methods (primary, middle and secondary school) and include all the personal aspects of the student's life.
  • Designing training programs to give the students the skills of the scientific thinking. and their applications by the student of secondary school.
  • Conducting researches dealing with the irrational ideas to the pupils of primary and middle school in Algeria.
