Abstract

The current study, titled "Evaluating the Psychometric Properties of the Short Version of the Psychological Well-being Scale: A Study Among a Sample of Students at Mohamed Boudiaf University," focuses on the empirical verification of the factorial structure of Ryff’s 18-item Psychological Well-being Scale within the Algerian environment. The primary objective of the researcher is to enrich the local academic landscape with a translated and validated Arabic instrument, thereby addressing a noticeable scientific gap in the field of positive psychology. This work emphasizes the assessment of construct validity and reliability by testing the applicability of the six theoretical dimensions of the concept- Self-Acceptance, Positive Relations with Others, Autonomy, Environmental Mastery, Purpose in Life, and Personal Growth- within the local cultural context.

In terms of methodology, the study utilized a descriptive-analytical approach. The research instrument was administered to a sample consisting of 256 male and female students from the University of M'Sila (Mohamed Boudiaf University), who were selected using a convenience sampling method. The participants’ ages ranged from 18 to 26 years. The scale comprises six core sub-dimensions and employs a Likert-type response format to gather data. To evaluate the overall quality and fit of the model, the researcher employed Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and calculated the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient.

The statistical results indicated that the first-order six-factor model achieved an acceptable to very good fit for the data. The reported fit indices included a standardized chi-square (χ²/df) of 1.718, a Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) of 0.056, and a Comparative Fit Index (CFI) of 0.894. These findings confirm that the scale’s factorial structure remains consistent with the multidimensional theoretical framework proposed internationally. Additionally, the tool demonstrated an acceptable reliability level of 0.73, solidifying this Arabic version as a scientifically valid and dependable tool for researchers and specialists operating within the Algerian local context
