Since its inception, the Algerian novel has included an element of popular heritage, which was shaped by the accumulation of knowledge and ideas that the collective popular imagination worked on weaving, composing and broadcasting, which became popular culture. This paper presents an anthropological reading of the various popular cultural formulas contained in the novel Al-Jazia and Al-Darwish by the Algerian novelist Abdelhamid Ben Hedouga as a narrative model that embodies the relationship of the novel with heritage and popular culture.
