Abstract

This research aims to study a discourse that is somewhat absent in linguistic studies but it is represented in the discourse of sports. In order to prove the validity for linguistic studies like other discourses. Perhaps the follower of sports will draw his attention to the use of metaphors terribly, especially metaphorical expressions which indicates the departure of this phenomenon from its usual framework (poetic language) and its connection with the mind and to linguistic discourses, including sports. Based on the above, this paper came to answer the following questions: Are cognitive metaphors available in the language of sport? And what are the most prominent types of metaphors that characterise the discourse of sports?
