Abstract

The term “modernity” is one of the intractable terms in terms of meaning and definition, given its ambiguity, as its concepts differed from one field to another, and the difficulty of grasping its limits for Western and Arab critics alike. Modernity did not remain confined to Western culture by virtue of its origin. Various environments, the most important of which is the Arab environment, through writers and orientalists, under the so-called renewal and modernization, among these critics: Muhammad Bennis, who gave great attention to the issue of Arab modernity in critical discourse, trying to highlight his critical vision and concept of it, and to clarify his position on Arab modernity, through his book The novelty of the question
