Abstract

This study analyzes the complexity of theatrical translation, balancing fidelity to the source text and cultural adaptation. Drawing on translation pragmatics and cultural adaptation theories, it examines linguistic and textual challenges. Through case studies, including “Hamlet” and contemporary Arab playwrights, it highlights obstacles related to cultural references and socio-political sensitivities. The research underscores the role of theatrical translation in fostering intercultural dialogue and advocates for greater translator awareness of cultural nuances.
