The level of social and emotional difficulties among a sample of elementary school students with math learning difficulties- a field study of samples in some schools in the city of M'sila

The study aimed to identify the level of social and emotional difficulties among a sample of elementary school students with mathematics learning difficulties. It was a field study conducted on samples from several schools in the city of M’Sila. The study was applied to a sample of 72 male and female students from grades 3، 4، and 5 of elementary school. It also aimed to determine
whether there were statistically significant differences in the level of social and emotional difficulties among the study sample attributable to the gender variable.
The sample was purposive، and the descriptive approach was employed as it was deemed suitable for the nature of the study. The research was conducted during the third semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. To verify the validity of the hypotheses، the following tool was utilized: the Diagnostic Rating Scale for Social and Emotional Behavior Difficulties from the Learning Disabilities Diagnostic and Research Scale (LDDRS) by Dr. Fathi Mustafa Al-Zayat. This scale consists of eight dimensions، each containing ten items، making a total of 80 items. The dimensions include: Characteristics of hyperactive behavio، Distracted or inattentive behavior، Low or weak self-concept، Deficient social skills، Impulsivity، Aggressive behavior characteristics، Withdrawal behavior characteristics، Dependent behavior characteristics
These dimensions reflect behavioral traits in the student under evaluation. The psychometric properties of the tool were statistically validated using the SPSS data analysis system.
The statistical testing of the study hypotheses revealed the following results:
- The level of social difficulties among the study sample was high.
- The level of emotional difficulties among the study sample was high.
- There were no statistically significant differences in the level of social difficulties among the study sample attributed to the gender variable.
- There were no statistically significant differences in the level of emotional difficulties among the study sample attributed to the gender variable.
