The importance of worker preventive culture in establishing measures for occupational health and safety in workplace

Abstract

Technological advancements have significantly transformed the workplace, leading to more complex tasks and numerous hazards posing threats to workers' physical and mental health. Organizations must continuously evaluate these risks and implement precautionary measures to ensure worker health and safety.

On the other hand, many challenges face the implementation of preventative measures in workplace. Workers avoid putting it into practice, or rather, they are unaware of its significance, which contributes to a culture that discourages preventive measures. This culture reflects the group’s common values, attitudes, traditions, and behaviors around the relevance of occupational safety and health, as well as the need of following preventive actions against workplace hazards.

The purpose of this paper is to use a descriptive methodology to explain the concept of preventative culture and to clarify its significance in creating occupational health and safety measures in workplace through an examination of the correlation between the preventive culture among workers and the establishment of preventive measures in their work environments, particularly in light of the widespread of workplace hazards and workers' neglection of how important is to complying with occupational safety protocols, which is as a consequence of the broad implementation of a negative preventive culture in the workplace.
