Abstract

: Reading comprehension is a complex cognitive process aimed at extracting meaning from a written text. This requires a dynamic interaction between the reader and the text, and is based on the reader's prior knowledge, linguistic proficiency, and ability to analyze and interpret. Reading

comprehension is based on basic strategies, the development of which is one of the most important goals in teaching Arabic, especially among intermediate-level students. Through this research paper, we aim to study the reading comprehension of hearing-impaired students with cochlear implants, who are middle-level students aged 12 to 15. To achieve this goal, the following question was posed:

Do hearing-impaired students with cochlear implants in the first year of intermediate-level education experience difficulties in reading comprehension? We relied on the descriptive approach using a case study approach to identify the strategies used by students to understand sentences. This was achieved by applying the reading comprehension test (CL) by researcher Abdel Hamid Khamsi to a sample of six (06) cochlear implant students at the first intermediate level. The results of the study revealed that they suffer from significant reading comprehension disorders. This confirms the study hypothesis, which indicates the validity of the theoretical concept on which it was built.
