The mediating and moderating Role of Emotion Regulation Strategies in the Relationship related to Childhood Trauma and Depression Symptoms among Adolescents

The current study aimed to investigate the mediating and moderating role. of emotion regulation strategies in the relationship between childhood trauma and depression symptoms among adolescents. The study utilized a descriptive correlational approach, and the study tools are included in the Emotion Regulation Strategies Scale, Childhood Trauma Scale, and Depression Scale. The study sample comprised 467 adolescents (late adolescents). The results of the study revealed a significant inverse correlation at a significance level of 0.01 between the scores of the study sample on the Emotion Regulation Strategies Scale, childhood trauma, and depression symptoms. A strong positive correlation was found at a significance level of 0.01 between the results of the study sample on the Childhood Trauma Scale and the Depression Scale. Moreover, the study found a mediating and moderating effect of emotion regulation strategies in the relationship between childhood trauma and depression symptoms among adolescents, where emotion regulation strategies played a role in reducing the association between childhood trauma and depression. The study recommends the implementation of training programs that teach adolescents how to utilize emotion regulation strategies to cope with negative emotions and transform them into positive thinking and behavior.
