The Scientific Literacy Level Among Psychology Department Teachers at Msila University

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the scientific literacy level among psychology department teachers at Msila University. In order to achieve its objectives, a tool was used scientific literacy test developed by Nawawreh (2013) consisting of (58) items distributed in three dimensions;(understand the nature of science, technology content, the impact of science and technology on society) after examining its psychometric characteristic (validity and reliability). Applied at a sample of (30) teachers, selected with comprehensive survey.

The result indicated that:

- The scientific literacy among psychology department teachers came in a medium level.

-The scientific literacy level among psychology department teachers at understand the nature of science dimension was medium.

- The scientific literacy level among psychology department teachers at technology content dimension was medium.

- The scientific literacy level among psychology department teachers at the impact of science and technology on society dimension was medium.

                        The study recommended the necessity of holding workshops for university faculty members to develop scientific literacy, on the topic of science and technology, and the relationship of science to technology, conducting more studies and research on the level of scientific literacy among faculty members in other disciplines and other fields and on different samples, such as university students.
