Abstract

This study examined the motives of university youth exposure to satirical sports content via social networking sites and the gratifications they achieve from this exposure, and relied on the survey methodology and questionnaire tool in collecting data and information that tested a random sample of 70 students from the Institutes of Science and technology of physical and sports activities at the Universities of Messila and Algeria.

The study tried to answer the following general question: What are the motives of university youth exposure to satirical sports content via social networking sites and what are the gratifications achieved from them

The researcher finally came to a set of results, the most prominent of which is that the internal and external motives expose young people to satirical content in the sports field, as for the internal motives embodied through their sense of comfort and enjoyment while satisfying themselves with increasing the degree of their aspiration for more, as these internal needs push the individual to increase the degree of following these contents through social networking sites, the external motives were to achieve coexistence through these situations and increase social interaction, in addition to satisfying the need of belonging to a certain group through social networking sites and enhancing dialogue and discussion with others. The study also found statistically significant differences in favor of students who agreed that they had internal and external motives for their exposure to satirical sports content, and the existence of a positive correlation between both variables of standard of living and specialization and the gratifications achieved by students from their exposure to satirical sports content on social networking sites.
