This study aimed to analyse the sociological impact of rumours on the quality of performance in higher education institutions. The methodology relied on an extensive field study involving a sample of faculty members from the economic, commercial and management sciences disciplines at the University of Martyr Abbas Laghrour, Khenchela. The sample size was 100 professors.
The research tool was designed using a descriptive-analytical approach and data were collected via 100 questionnaires. Following a sorting and review process, the study used 72 valid questionnaires for analysis, while 28 questionnaires were excluded as they were unsuitable for statistical analysis. The data were processed and analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
The analytical results yielded a set of key indicators showing a statistically significant effect of rumour prevalence on the quality of academic performance of faculty members in the aforementioned disciplines. The results also revealed statistically significant relationships between the use of rumours in various areas - namely academic relations, pedagogy, student affairs and administration, and scientific activity - and the quality of higher education at the institution in question.
