The Role of Listening and Monitoring Cells at Secondary Schools in Reducing School Violence (A Review of the Literature)

Abstract

This research paper aimed to investigate the pivotal role played by listening and monitoring cells in educational institutions (secondary level) as an effective preventive and therapeutic mechanism to reduce the phenomenon of school violence. The study stems from the problem of increasing aggressive behaviors within the educational environment, which necessitated examining the effectiveness of these cells supervised by school and vocational guidance and counseling advisors. The study adopted a descriptive approach through reviewing and analyzing previous literature and relevant recent studies, with the aim of providing a comprehensive vision of the contribution of these units to improving the educational climate and providing a safe and stable learning environment. The results of the scientific review showed that listening cells represent an educational safety valve, as they provide psychological and social support for students and open channels of dialogue that allow them to express their concerns and pressures before they escalate. These cells also contribute to the early detection of behavioral changes and tension hotspots, and play a fundamental role in educational mediation to resolve conflicts among peers. In addition, it was found that activating these cells strengthens human relations among the various actors in the institution and reduces the severity of school bullying through individual and group support programs that focus on the deep psychological aspects of learners. The study concluded with a set of practical recommendations, emphasizing the need to strengthen these units with logistical resources and qualified human personnel, while ensuring the continuous training of guidance counselors in interview techniques and rapid psychological intervention. The paper also stressed the importance of integration between the school and the family, by involving parents in the unit’s activities to ensure comprehensive follow-up. In conclusion, it affirmed that making attentive listening an institutional culture is the optimal way to achieve school safety, which guarantees improved quality of school life and raises the level of academic achievement within an educational environment free from school violence.
