Contact among peoples and cultures always generates cause and effect relationships. These relationships help knowledge to move, evolve and be renewed. Starting from Structuralism, whose ideas led to the modern Arabic linguistics, to cognitive linguistics as the latest innovation of modern linguistics to discover human hidden cognitive skills, the ideas originated by the Saussurean linguistics has affected the entire world. The Arabic world, relatively late, is no exception. Between Structuralism and cognitive linguistics, the Arabic reception took place amid several scientific, intellectual and ideological hindrances. This led to many problems and prevented the Arabic linguistics to keep up with the development of Western linguistics. This paper is an attempt to examine the process of reception of structuralist ideas and its levels, considered as the first reception, and to depict its problems, hindrances and results through three main axes: reception history, reception context and Arabic reception nature
