The issue of maritime zones under the maritime territory of a coastal state is of great importance, especially for the coastal state itself. Initially, maritime zones were characterized by ambiguity regarding their boundaries, but they have become an important economic resource for both neighboring states and the world as a whole, leading to competition among states to exploit them. These factors have led to competition among states to be first in exploiting and discovering the resources within them and utilizing them for navigation. The great importance of the seas prompted the establishment of an international framework for them, namely the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982.
