The Role of Endowments in Reducing Oil Dependency to Confront the Economic Crisis in Algeria

Abstract

The research deals with one of the donation contracts, namely the endowment (waqf) contract, which is addressed by the Algerian legislator in the Family Code. Due to the economic importance of endowments and in light of the economic crisis that occurred globally in 2015–2016—which affected many countries heavily reliant on oil revenues to finance their economies, including Algeria—we were prompted to highlight the role of endowment properties in achieving economic development. These properties can be considered one of the promising economic alternatives upon which Algeria could rely to confront global economic crises resulting from fluctuations in oil prices on international markets.
