Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the level of the concept of body image and self-esteem and the relationship between them among athletes with special needs; Body image and self-esteem questionnaires were applied to a sample of 84 disabled athletes practicing basketball and handball in Algerian sports clubs. We concluded that the concept of body image is high as well as self-esteem is high and that there is a correlation between the level of the concept of body image and the level of self-esteem among athletes with special needs. In the light of the results, the study suggested:

* Caring for and giving more important athletes like ordinary people, many teams get successes in many international competitions and tournaments and come home in the shadows that no one cares about.

* Provide free semi-medical tools to athletes so they can be creative in their field.

* Prepare mentoring programs for those concerned to continue their success and avoid the psychological problems they can face.
