Abstract

This study aims to disclose the place's significance in the novel "The inheritance" by the
Palestinian writer "Sahar Khalifa". In fact, the writer tries to examine the post-Oslo
period and its effects on the political, the social and the economic conditions of the
place which plays a role in reflecting the Palestinian reality. Importantly, the place
element has been well embodied and developed in the novel, thus reflecting the
novelist’s experience who lived in exile (the United States of America) and then
returned to her homeland (Palestine). In this regard, a special attention is addressed to
the potential significances of the place element which is clearly present in the narrative
text through textual thresholds as well as in terms of artistic formation through its
interaction with various elements of the text such as: time, characters, and events.
