Abstract

This article analyzes the profound transformation of the engaged intellectual figure, from the foundational models of the Dreyfus Affair (Zola) and existentialism (Sartre) to the digital age. It first examines the crisis of moral authority and monolithic political intervention in the face of increasing knowledge specialization. The second section studies the deconstructing impact of the contemporary media context, marked by urgency, audience fragmentation, and the proliferation of post-truth narratives, which neutralize traditional methods of engagement. Consequently, the study proposes a new positioning: that of the intellectual-mediator. This role requires the intellectual to abandon polemics in favor of pedagogy and to execute an ethical 'third mission.' They must mobilize their expertise for scientific mediation and factual verification, thereby restoring trust in truth processes. By adopting an ethic of prudence and accessibility, the intellectual can renew their relevance by reconciling the demand for knowledge with the imperative of committed communication.
