Toponyms between uses and representations. The case of some municipalities and an ex-municipality of the wilaya of Tlemcen

Abstract

This article deals with the use and representations made by young tlemcenians
of certain toponyms of their wilaya. In fact, some municipalities and former
municipalities have double denominators, old and new. The old ones are
inherited from the colonial period, while the new ones are decreed by the
independent government. Thus, our research objective is to highlight their use
by young people as well as the motivations that preside over their choice, while
trying to understand the reason(s) for the survival of the old names.
