Abstract

Confiscating assets resulting from corruption crimes is an effective tool that
enhances the ability of criminal justice systems to combat these crimes and
has a deterrent effect against their perpetrators. Furthermore, this
confiscation constitutes an additional source of revenue for the state
treasury in general, and for anti-corruption law enforcement activities in
particular.
Confiscation is considered one of the most effective criminal sanctions in
combating corruption and the smuggling of its proceeds. Confiscating illicit
funds generated by these crimes contributes to eliminating the primary goal
pursued by criminal groups: profit. Therefore, international cooperation in
the field of confiscation is of paramount importance, especially since these
groups often seek to preserve the acquired funds and invest them in other
countries.
