Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the role of the second-generation curriculum for physical education and sports in promoting the values ​​of citizenship in its social and ethical dimensions among middle school students, by posing the following main question: Does the second-generation curriculum for physical education and sports play a role in promoting the values ​​of citizenship in its social and ethical dimensions among middle school students? To answer the question posed, the researcher adopted the descriptive method to describe the phenomenon under study. To collect data, a questionnaire was administered to a purposive sample of 150 middle school students in the state of Khenchela. The researcher concluded that the second-generation curriculum for physical education and sports plays a role in promoting the values ​​of citizenship in its social dimension (cooperation, respect for others, solidarity, etc.), and also in its ethical dimension (tolerance, rejection of violence, rejection of fanaticism, etc.). Among the most important recommendations are: working with the content of the second-generation curriculum for physical education and sports; paying attention to physical education and sports, which is considered a continuation of general education and the formation of a good citizen; the necessity of re-reading the physical education and sports curriculum in order to identify gaps and shortcomings so that it becomes more relevant; and teachers should familiarize themselves further with the curriculum and better understand its aims and objectives.
