Keywords:
Knowledge Economy, Knowledge Economy Indicators, Global Knowledge Index, MENA Region CountriesAbstract
The study aimed to assess the extent to which Algeria and MENA region countries have adopted the requirements of the knowledge economy, relying on data from the Global Knowledge Economy Index published in 2021 by the United Nations Development Programme.
The results revealed significant disparities among these countries, with the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia leading in the requirements for transitioning to a knowledge economy by focusing on enhancing technical infrastructure, improving education quality, and promoting innovation. In contrast, countries like Egypt and Tunisia are striving to meet these requirements despite existing challenges. Conversely, nations such as Algeria, Iran, Palestine, and Yemen remain distant from this transition and require further efforts to fulfill these requirements and achieve this transformation.
