The Intangible Heritage of Ouled Madhi: Memory, Transmission, and Identity

Abstract

Although it is increasingly marginalized, the intangible cultural heritage of the Hodna region constitutes an important factor in preserving the cultural identity of this region and in confronting the process of globalization and attempts to homogenize cultural practices.

Having an understanding of the intangible cultural heritage of the Hodna region is therefore important, as it makes it possible to identify the specific characteristics and richness of the cultural assets that are distinctive to this geographical area. This article seeks to present a number of oral testimonies attesting to the richness of the oral and intangible cultures of the M’Sila region, which may be regarded as a means of strengthening the link between the past and the present.

It is also important to highlight the prospects for preserving and safeguarding local heritage, given that promoting and enhancing its value can constitute a powerful instrument for combating the process of globalization.
