The Mujahid Abdallah ben Amhmed ben Mohammed Al-Fayez known as “Al-Sahrawi” and his Role in the National Liberation Army 1957-1962

Abstract

The Mujahid (freedom fighter) Abdallah ben Amhmed Al-Faiz, known as "Al-Sahrawi," was one of the militants from the Touat region who joined the National Liberation Army 1957. He participated in numerous battles against the colonizer, even sustaining injuries from bullets to his eye and right thigh. After independence, he remained in the People's National Army until 1973. He is currently 89 years old. I met him at his home and conducted an interview about his struggle in the National Liberation Army, finding that he still vividly remembers many events and describes them with great accuracy, though he has forgotten some of them.

Among the aims and outcomes of this study is to highlight the role of the Mujahideen (freedom fighters) from the Touat region in the Algerian War of Independence, as well as to document the history of this man. Additionally, it seeks to shed light on some of the revolution’s events from the perspective of those who lived through them.
