The massacres of 8 May 1945 in Algeria were not long in making a lot of ink flow on the international scene. The newspaper l'Humanité was the first in Paris to reveal the atrocities committed in the region by the French colonial authorities against unarmed and defenseless Algerians on the day when allied capitals celebrated the end of World War II. At first, the Spanish press controlled by General Franco, "caudillo" of Franco’s Spain, covered the massacres relying on the French media, but when the voices began to rise on French crime in the province of Constantine, The Spanish news agency, Efe, sent a journalist to Algeria to find out the truth about what happened in Algeria.
