Abstract

This research deals with the most important theories of cognitive linguistics, in particular the mental continuity theory of its French pioneer Gilles Fauconnier. This linguistic model, which represents a new cognitive field that emerged in France, has been widely spread within the framework of what is known as the cognitive theory, which became very popular in The United States of America, and the mental space theory was unique in the development of its principles and mystical approaches, starting from its founder Gilles Fauconnier to his students. Among the most prominent contributions of his students who developed the theory of space is what the Belgian linguist Claude Vandeloise presented in his book (Space in the French Language) as a good example. The cognitive linguistic functional model proposed by Claude Vandelois, and its importance lies in the engineering approach to linguistic space. The aim of this research is to present the geometrical, topological, logical, and linguistic approach that dealt with space in language. The research seeks to present the engineering concepts, tools, and purely spatial means, such as the concepts of distance, direction, distance, and other concepts identified by the cognitive functional linguistic model.
