Abstract

Since the mid-nineties, sport has gained an important role in public policy and became a priority
for governments either through the training and encouragement of sports elites or through the use
of sport in achieving the goals of social policy. The last decade, in particular, has witnessed the
reconstruction of sports policy in the public sector and the voluntary sector of sport. This came as
the outcome of changes brought by the new media technology which heavily influenced sports
policy and behaviour of consumers of sports at the political, social and economic levels.
Consequently, this has led to a reconsideration of sports policy and its adaptation to the general
public policy
