Sports injuries suffered by secondary school students while conducting the physical education and sports lesson

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the types of sports injuries that secondary school students are exposed to during the physical education and sports lesson, to know the places exposed to injury and sports activities through which students are exposed to injury more, and to know the causes of injuries from the viewpoint of supervising teachers and injured students, and the researcher adopted the descriptive approach. The research sample reached about 200 individuals, including 120 male and female students, and (80) professors in physical education and sports. Questionnaire and interview were used as data collection tool. The researcher found that the most frequent injuries are: cuts, scrapes, sprains, spasms, and the places most likely to be injured are: the ankle, thigh, and knee. As for the sports activities through which students are exposed to injury are: the half-long running race, as for the causes of injury in the first degree: short warm-up period, invalid flooring, performance errors the psychological state of the students
