Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the current practice of recreational physical activity in shaded areas among the youth. The researchers focused on the youth population as they constitute 70% of Algeria's population. This was done to understand the actual reality of engaging in recreational sports in these areas and to identify the available recreational sports activities that are being practiced. Additionally, the study aimed to identify the factors contributing to the variations in the practice of different activities. The researchers used a descriptive-analytical method on a sample of 240 young individuals distributed across the four regions: East, West, North, and South of the Boumerdes provinces. The sample was selected using a systematic random sampling technique. The questionnaire was developed based on previous studies and the theoretical background related to the study's topic. The results obtained indicate that the reality of recreational sports in shaded areas primarily relies on some cost-effective activities that do not require significant resources or facilities, such as football, walking, running, and occasionally cycling. Among the prominent factors contributing to the variation in the practice of different activities are local development, deteriorating living conditions, and the lack of resources, facilities, and sports equipment that enable youth to engage in these activities during their free time.
