Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of physical education and sports classes in developing certain life skills within the competency-based approach. Therefore, we hypothesized that physical education and sports classes play a positive role in developing these life skills within this framework. The research sample consisted of 3,328 fourth-year middle school students, distributed across 107 schools, representing 30% of the research population in the Mostaganem province. These students were selected randomly. The research problem was addressed using a life skills scale comprising three axes: self-confidence and self-esteem, sound decision-making and responsibility, and stress management. After statistical analysis and data collection, the results showed that physical education and sports classes do indeed play a positive role in developing certain life skills within the competency-based approach. Based on these findings, we recommend conducting similar studies encompassing other educational stages and life skills.
