Abstract

  • Education is a tool for achieving development. Nations that recognized this fact early on were able to invest in it to develop their human resources and revitalize their social and economic institutions, while nations that failed to grasp this reality continued to suffer from underdevelopment in all its forms. Since independence, Algeria has recognized the importance of education in development, establishing schools and universities and transforming teaching pedagogies. It has moved from a content-based approach to a competency-based approach, passing through a objectives-based approach. Institutes and departments of physical education and sports across the country have updated their curricula in line with the latest pedagogical approaches. Among these institutes is the Institute of Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities at Constantine 2 University, which we selected for our study to evaluate the teaching skills of third-year LMD (License-Master-Doctorate) students and, consequently, to assess the institute's success in implementing the competency-based approach in teaching. The research sample included (115) students, who were then evaluated on an applied pedagogy scale during the academic year (2012-2013). Through this study, we arrived at the following results: Students in the Department of Physical Education and Sports demonstrate a good level in the planning axis. Students in the Department of Physical Education and Sports demonstrate an average level in the implementation axis. Students in the Department of Physical Education and Sports demonstrate an average level in the evaluation axis. Students in the Department of Physical Education and Sports demonstrate a weak level in the organization and management axis.×
