The role of recreational sports activity in reducing the phenomenon of drug addiction: A field study at Franz Fanon Hospital in Blida.

Abstract

This study aimed to highlight the importance and role of recreational sports activities as an effective tool in confronting and reducing drug addiction within society, particularly among young people. The study was conducted at Franz Fanon Hospital in Blida, a specialized center for detoxification and rehabilitation, on a sample of 43 individuals. Since the study was a survey, meaning the sample size was equal to the population size, the research sample represented the original population of the study. It consisted of four groups: the first group comprised the treatment staff within the center; the second group consisted of the 43 addicts; the third group comprised the center's specialists; and the fourth group comprised the center's director. The study employed a descriptive methodology, one of the most widely used approaches in the social and psychological sciences, utilizing a questionnaire administered to the addicts and treatment staff within the center, as well as interviews with the specialists and the center's director. After gathering information and data, the results were encouraging and beneficial, giving the research a deeper dimension. Ultimately, it became clear that recreational sports play a role in reducing drug addiction. This is a consensus among all those involved in treatment, specialists, and addicts themselves. The progress of societies and nations is measured by the intellectual sophistication of their people and the advancement of their scientific innovations. What will become of these nations if the minds of their youth are paralyzed, their thinking and innovation cease, and they choose the path of drug addiction? Recreational sports are considered one of the goals and solutions that can help individuals overcome this destructive threat.
